Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ:GRMN) announced a recall of over one million Nuvi navigation units due to potential battery overheating. Company officials said ten cases of overheating batteries have been reported so far and that about 1.25 million Nuvi units might have related issues. 796000 devices were sold in the US alone. "We...take this opportunity to re-emphasize that Garmin's existing product literature for Nuvi devices instructs and warns customers not to expose the products to extremely high temperatures by leaving Nüvi units in the windshield while unattended because of the extremely high temperatures that can be reached on a car dashboard on a hot, sunny day," Garmin officials wrote in a letter. "These high temperatures can cause the battery to swell, which could contribute to overheating risks."SmarTrend alerted subscribers to take profits in Garmin on May 05, 2010 at .99, since then the stock fell 20.2%. We are now watching for any positive developments that could result in a new uptrend signal.
